Wellness Embodied Blog

– So, have you ever had a pain,
00:04
been anxious, been stressed, been depressed,
00:07
and just been told to just stay positive, or be grateful?
00:11
Now, being grateful is a really awesome thing.
00:13
I do a gratitude journal.
00:14
I’m really grateful for lots of things in my life.
00:17
But I think that positivity
00:18
and happiness is just a rubbish metric,
00:22
and there’s a lot of writers who agree with this idea.
00:26
If you’re constantly pushing this positivity,
00:28
what you’re doing is you’re actually pushing
00:31
the crap further down into you,
00:34
and you just end up full of crap, basically.
00:38
You know, it’s often okay to feel pain.
00:43
And what we really hope to do
00:44
is to really simmer that pain,
00:45
that tissue pain in a really healthy way,
00:48
and identify, you know, what’s an okay pain,
00:50
what’s not an okay pain.
00:54
Often, these things can be a trigger
00:55
that you need to do something else.
00:57
Maybe you need to deal with your inflammation,
00:59
maybe you need to do some more self-care activities.
01:04
You know, it’s part of that whole process.
01:06
But I guess at Wellness and Body,
01:09
we’re really into not minimizing your pain.
01:13
We aren’t into a constant stay positive type of thing.
01:19
We really endeavor to be empathetic,
01:22
and you know, I guess just realizing
01:24
that you’re not in the other person’s shoes.
01:28
But we have seen so much stuff,
01:30
in terms of injuries, and things like tissue trauma,
01:34
that is the result of emotional trauma, as well.
01:37
That really, we’re in a great position
01:39
to have that empathy, and to educate,
01:41
and to do all those things.
01:43
But, you know, I think minimizing people’s pain,
01:48
or minimizing people’s emotional trauma
01:50
is really upsetting.
01:51
And yeah, the stay positive metric.
01:54
Probably not the greatest.
01:57
But I’d love your thoughts.
