MILD HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY

Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is now available at Wellness Embodied. This form of treatment can be used to help increase blood flow, elevate immune responses, reduce swelling, assist with wound healing and more. It’s a specialised treatment and to see if you may benefit from it, please book a consult with one our experienced therapists on 07 4231 9777.

MILD HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) is a non-invasive treatment provided in a hyperbaric chamber. As its name suggests, this form of treatment uses oxygen, delivered in a pressurised chamber at higher than normal atmospheric pressure, to deliver wellness benefits. Please note, in contrast to hospital grade chambers, we use a lower pressure to increase your oxygen absorption and saturation. Our chambers are not recommended for use to treat acute conditions, such as decompression sickness.

WHAT CAN IT HELP

mHBOT has been used for many years in many countries, including USA, Netherlands, Russia and Israel, to support health and wellbeing. It can be used to support the treatment and recovery from a range of issues and can provide a range of health and wellness benefits. This includes, but is not limited to, increased blood flow, elevated immune response, reduced swelling, increased cellular energy (ATP), increased metabolism and glucose uptake, increased parasympathetic response and reduced inflammation.

YOUR TREATMENT

At Wellness Embodied we use Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to support our clients and optimise their health and wellbeing. Prior to your first session, you will be required to complete a consult with one of our senior therapists. This allows us to discuss your individual condition and determine if this is a safe and appropriate therapy to support you. We have two hyperbaric chambers at Wellness Embodied, which pressurise to different levels (more on this below). They are located at our Parramatta Park clinic on Scott Street.

OUR HYPERBARIC CHAMBERS

Wellness Embodied has two hyperbaric chambers, an Eclipse Elite and an Infinity Hyperbaric Oxygen Pod. During treatment the Eclipse Elite is gently pressurised to 1.5ATM (1.5 times the atmospheric pressure at sea level, or the equivalent of diving to approximately 5 metres), while the Infinity Hyperbaric Oxygen Pod is gently pressurised to 2ATA which is twice the atmospheric pressure exerted at sea level.

The Eclipse Elite is inflatable in nature, with an internal steel frame, and as such we request no sharp objects or jewellery to be within the chamber. You lay down during treatment. The Infinity Hyperbaric Oxygen Pod has a hard-shell construction, allowing you to remain seated during treatment.

If you feel uncomfortable at any time during your Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment sessions, you can exit the units and/or call for help.

TRAINING AND TREATMENT SESSIONS

Our Director and Senior Clinicians have all completed training with the International Hyperbarics Association (IHA), regarding treatment protocols and mHBOT use. They will conduct and complete individual assessments with patients, prior to any Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment sessions being undertaken. If this is deemed an appropriate treatment for you, then we will use it in conjunction with our other hands-on therapy and evidence-based rehabilitation services.

Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment sessions usually last 60 minutes, with the option for a 90 minute session. How many sessions you might require, all depends on your conditions and response to treatment.

During therapy you will need to equalise your ears, similar to when travelling in a plane or scuba diving, and other than that the time is your own. You are welcome to read (a book, magazine or your phone/ E-reader), watch a movie on your phone or Ipad, or relax / meditate.

PHONE TO BOOK

You will need to complete a consult with our Director, or one of our trained Senior Clinicians, prior to any Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment sessions. Due to the fact that they run a waitlist, we do request full pre-payment of these consults. Sessions can be rescheduled with 24 business hours notice, however no-shows or cancellations in under 24 hours may forfeit their treatment fee.

mHBOT is not eligible for health fund or Medicare rebates at this stage. Workcover, NDIS and other third party billers may be able to access the service, once their provider has approved payment. Unfortunately, we cannot accept DVA referrals for mHBOT.

Please note that our Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment sessions are provided at our Parramatta Park clinic, which is located at 30 Scott Street, just down the road from Cairns Central and Travellers Oasis. Call to book an appointment on (07) 4231 9777 or book online – selecting the Parramatta Park Clinic. Appointments can be booked on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
