MILD HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY

Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is now available at the Wellness Embodied flagship clinic in Abbott Street. This form of treatment can be used to help increase blood flow, elevate immune responses, reduce swelling, assist with wound healing and more. It’s a specialised treatment and to see if you may benefit from it, please book a consult with one our experienced therapists on 07 4231 9777.

MILD HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY

Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) is a non-invasive treatment provided in a hyperbaric chamber. As its name suggests, this form of treatment is essentially the medical use of oxygen, delivered in a pressurised chamber at higher than normal atmospheric pressure. At Wellness Embodied we use an Eclipse Elite hyperbaric chamber, which is safe and has very few contraindications to use. Please note, in contrast to hospital grade chambers, we use a lower pressure to increase your oxygen absorption and saturation. Our chamber is not recommended for use to treat acute conditions, such as decompression sickness.

WHAT CAN IT HELP

mHBOT has been used for many years in many countries, including USA, Netherlands, Russia and Israel, to support health and wellbeing. It can be used to support the treatment and recovery from a range of issues including Long COVID, Multiple Sclerosis, Brain Injury / Concussion, Cerebral Palsy, Development Disorders and Sports Injuries. It may help to increase your blood flow, elevate immune response, reduce swelling and speed up healing by increasing tissue oxygenation, boost stem cells, promote new blood vessel growth, stimulate new nerve growth and assist with wound healing.

YOUR TREATMENT

At Wellness Embodied we use Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to support our clients and optimise their health and wellbeing. Prior to your first session, you will be required to complete a consult with one of our senior therapists. This allows us to discuss your individual condition and determine if this is a safe and appropriate therapy to support you. The mHBOT treatment itself involves you breathing in 98% oxygen via a mask, in our Eclipse Elite hyperbaric chamber, which is gently pressurised to 1.5ATM (1.5 times the atmospheric pressure at sea level, or the equivalent of diving to approximately 5 metres). More details below.

WHAT DO I DURING TREATMENT?

At Wellness Embodied we use an Eclipse Elite hyperbaric chamber to provide our Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment. Sessions usually last 60 minutes, with the option for 90 minute sessions. During therapy you will need to equalise your ears, similar to when travelling in a plane or scuba diving, and other than that the time is your own. You are welcome to read (a book, magazine or your phone/ E-reader), watch a movie on your phone or Ipad, or relax / meditate.

Our modern chamber is inflatable in nature, with an internal steel frame, and as such we request no sharp objects or jewellery to be within the chamber. There are 3 emergency exits and if you feel uncomfortable at any time during your session, you can exit it or call for help.

OUR ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES

Our Director and Senior Clinicians have all completed training with the International Hyperbarics Association (IHA), regarding treatment protocols and mHBOT use. They will conduct and complete individual assessments with patients, prior to any Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment sessions being undertaken. If it is deemed an appropriate treatment for you, then we will use it conjunction with our other hands-on therapy and evidence-based rehabilitation services.

How many Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions you might require, all depends on your conditions and response to treatment. Research studies generally tend to use a minimum of 20 sessions, with some performing up to 100 sessions.

PHONE TO BOOK

Please note that prior to any Cairns Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions being booked, you will need to complete a consult with our Director, or one of our Senior Clinicians who have completed relevant International Hyperbarics Association (IHA) training. Due to the fact that they run a waitlist, we do request full pre-payment of these consults. Sessions can be rescheduled with 24 business hours notice, however, no-shows or cancellations in under 24 hours may forfeit their treatment fee.

mHBOT is not eligible for health fund or Medicare rebates at this stage. Workcover, NDIS and other third party billers will be able to access the service, once their provider has approved payment. Unfortunately, we cannot accept DVA referrals for mHBOT.
