CAIRNS SCAR TREATMENT

Our Cairns scar treatment is designed to reduce scar pain and tension, increase mobility and movement and encourage renewed healing and improved tissue health. We treat scars of all ages, from the newly healed – starting at 6 weeks – to older scars. Referrals are not necessary. Book online or call 07 4231 9777.

SCAR TISSUE

Scar tissue is created when your body is healing from an injury. There can be internal and external scar tissue, depending on your injury. External scar tissue is usually formed in response to an accident or trauma, such as a cut, burn or deep graze. Internal scar tissue can be formed in response to strained muscles and tendons. Sometimes scars cause no pain at all, but often people with scars do experience ‘scar pain’ which can lead to reduced movement, mobility and function. If this sounds like you, then we can help with effective Cairns scar treatment and support.

TYPES OF SCARS

Our team can treat a range of scars, including but not limited to the following.

  • Abdominal surgery scars: Bowel, Caesarean, Hysterectomy, Laparoscope and Appendectomy.
  • Perineal scars: including Episiotomy.
  • Oncological surgery scars.
  • Portacath and tube/drain site scars.
  • Gallbladder removal scars.
  • Orthopaedic: Hip, Knee and Back scars.
  • Scars from a cut or laceration.

CAIRNS SCAR TREATMENT

Our multi-disciplinary team can use a range of modalities when providing Cairns scar treatment. This includes but is not limited to: manual release therapy; cupping; dry needling; ED / laser or shockwave therapy; massage; strengthening exercises to maintain increased mobility. At all times our Cairns scar treatment is designed to reduce pain and tension, stimulate circulation, lymphatic and the nervous system to encourage renewed healing and promote tissue growth. You may also notice the scars appear smaller, lighter and less prominent too.

Our Scar Assessment & Support.

One of our physiotherapists will assess how well your scar is moving. This well be done on a superficial fascial layer and also on a deeper fascia / muscle layer. The assessment will include a review of the mobility of the nerves in the area and any movement restrictions that you have. Once assessment is complete, we will prepare a treatment plan for your specific needs which will focus on freeing up any restrictions noted and optimise your recovery.

Please note our Cairns scar treatment and releases will not be painful, as this can lead to ‘muscle guarding’ which reduces effective healing. Our aim is to keep the intensity at 1-2/10, or whatever level you are comfortable with. If your scar is very sensitive, we will focus on reducing that first. Additional considerations need to be made if you have a risk of lymphoedema.

When Should Cairns Scar Treatment Start?

We can provide Cairns scar treatment at any time during the healing process, from as early as 6 weeks after scar creation, to many years after the event. The aim will always be to create movement between the scar tissue, skin, fascia and muscle.

At Wellness Embodied we are passionate about creating pain-free bodies, capable of performing at their optimum. While all our Cairns physiotherapists can provide Cairns scar treatment, Leisa has a special interest in this area with many years experience treating Caesarean, perineal scars and breast scars (mastectomy and reconstruction). She can do external and internal assessment of perineal scars (if recommended and you feel comfortable) and has a particular interest in superficial fascia releases (which is where the scar is).
