Cairns Hesch Method treatment is available at Wellness Embodied. The Hesch Method is a gentle manual therapy technique that focuses on restoring normal joint micromotion. It takes a whole-body perspective, assessing and treating compensations throughout the body. It is a unique and effective approach that addresses a wide range of musculoskeletal issues.
The Hesch Method is based on the principle that the body is interconnected, and dysfunction in one area can lead to issues in another. For example, ankle stiffness can affect up the body to the hip, pelvis or even neck. This innovative approach was developed by Jerry Hesch (physiotherapist in the USA) and has gained popularity for its holistic approach to assessment and treatment. Our Cairns Hesch Method treatment is provided by one of our Senior Physiotherapists, Leisa Lawson, at Wellness Embodied.
By restoring the motion in the affected area. When a joint has restricted micromotion, there is often either an inhibition of muscle function around the joint or an increase. Restoring the motion normalises the tone in the muscle. This includes the Pelvic Floor Muscles! Think of shock absorbers in a car. Force can move through the wheel unit, making the ride smooth, otherwise the ride would be bumpy due to a “block”. Assessment through the joint, called “Spring testing with awareness” is made in different directions, looking at the ability for force to move through the joint, rather than it getting “blocked”. Treatment then aims to restore this, which restores mobility and function.
Anyone can benefit from our Cairns Hesch Method treatment, particularly those who suffer recurring problems. This is because the Hesch Method addresses the underlying causes of musculoskeletal issues, rather than the symptoms. The Hesch Method is very effective for those who have lower back, pelvis and hip pain and/or recurrent ankle sprains, or recovery after an ankle or foot fracture. It can also help women who have had a baby (even years prior) who may be suffering pelvic girdle pain. The pelvic floor muscles (PFM) attach onto the pelvic bones. Restoring force load transfer through the pelvis can also improve PFM function (ability to contract and relax).
When you come in for a session of Cairns Hesch Method treatment, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation and development of a personalised plan.
The treatment itself involves a combination of gentle manual therapy techniques (generally held for a few minutes), to restore normal movement patterns and improve function. There are also specific exercises that you can do at home, to maintain the improvement gained, particularly for those areas that stiffen up regularly during the day (ie. sitting at computer and in car, driving with our right foot on pedal rotating through our pelvis and hips).
Patients often report experiencing significant pain relief, improved mobility, and increased strength after receiving Cairns Hesch Method treatment. Depending on how many areas need treatment, this may require two to three sessions.
