Cairns Autism Management

At Wellness Embodied, our team of allied health professionals includes experienced physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, occupational therapists and remedial massage therapists. We’re committed to providing personalised Cairns autism management programs and treatment, to deliver best outcomes for each of our clients and their unique and presenting needs.

PHYSIOTHERAPY & AUTISM

Research shows that children and young people on the autism spectrum, are at risk of low levels of physical activity, and high levels of sedentary behaviours. This puts them at risk of diseases associated with inactivity, as well as limits their opportunities for social engagement. That’s why our Cairns autism management approach, specifically addresses movement and function.

OT & AUTISM

Occupational therapy (OT) is another valuable resource in managing autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for children and adults. By focusing on enhancing daily living skills and addressing sensory integration, OT interventions can significantly improve an individual’s quality of life. Through tailored therapies and interventions, occupational therapy plays a pivotal role in enabling individuals with ASD to thrive.

YOUR TREATMENT

Our approach to Cairns autism management is to tailor individualised treatment plans, to deliver best outcomes for specific needs. We strongly value hands on therapies, to help relieve pain and management of sensory issues. Our team are experienced at a range of modalities and will select the best one, to maximise your treatment. These may include play therapy, craniosacral therapy, occupational therapy, osteopathic techniques or remedial massage.

WHAT IS AUTISM?

Autism is a condition that affects how a person thinks, feels and interacts with others, and experiences their environment. It’s a lifelong disability that starts when a person is born and stays with them into old age. Every person with autism is different to the other. This is why autism is described as a ‘spectrum’. Some of the frequent symptoms may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lack of social or emotional exchanges like pointing, smiling and showing you things.
  • Lack of non-verbal communication, such as nodding and shaking head, using hand gestures etc.
  • Difficulty developing and maintaining relationships appropriate to the age, such as peer play, lack of close friends.
  • Strongly reactive to sensory input such as sound, pain or textures.

PHYSICAL ASSESSMENTS

To develop an appropriate Cairns autism management plan for each client, we complete a range of assessments. This includes a BOT-2 assessment, which provides the tools to benchmark a child’s fundamental motor skills, such as balancing, running, strength and agility, and is suitable for those aged 4-21. We can also provide Functional Capacity Assessment in clinic or at your home, to assist you with a report on your current state and guide you in future goal setting.

All of our plans are designed to improve overall levels of physical activity, as well as to promote early identification of movement difficulties, facilitating early access to specialised interventions and promoting better outcomes for patients with autism. Accurate assessments and comprehensive reporting can help NDIS clients receive appropriate funding, to support their treatment and care. Our treatment is suitable for children and adults.
