The hip and knee are two joints commonly affected by degenerative conditions such as arthritis. However, due to the high impact we place on them in everyday life, both joints can be subjected to acute injuries or develop pain at any stage. Wellness Embodied provide effective Cairns hip and knee pain treatment, so if you’re in pain, contact us to make an appointment.

Pain in the hip area can be referred from the back, or sacro-iliac joint. Problems within the hip joint itself, can refer pain into the groin and bottom. Those who had dysplasia or congenital dislocations as children, are more pre-disposed to future problems like impingement and arthritis. Impingement can happen when there are abnormalities in the size or shape of the femoral head (ball) or acetabulum (socket), or even just because of poor postures such as sustained low sitting and poor muscle control. Some of these issues can lead to tears within the labrum, which surgeons are now repairing with keyhole surgery, or to future arthritis.

Common structures causing pain within your knee include the medial or lateral meniscus, or cartilage, ligaments (including the Medial and Lateral Collateral ligaments and your two cruciate ligaments), the patellar tendon and the iliotibial band. We have also frequently seen knee pain develop over time, due to poor positioning of the patella, or knee cap; this can be easily treated using techniques such as tape, foam rolling and individualised rehabilitation exercises. We understand that knee pain can be debilitating and if left untreated, can lead to back pain and more, due to altered posture and walking techniques.

A physiotherapy assessment will identify the structures at fault within your hip or knee and surrounding joints and muscles. Treatment may consist of: mobilisation of stiff joints; taping; acupuncture; dry needling; fascia release; massage for pain; correction of bio-mechanical issues (for example, providing shoe inserts for problem feet); and provision of specific strengthening and stretching exercises. Some of the products we stock at Wellness Embodied, such as spiky massage balls, foam rollers and wedge shaped cushions, may also be useful to help you to self-manage.

Physiotherapy Can Help

Wellness Embodied provides holistic hip and knee pain treatment. With physiotherapy, most people can improve pain and function long before needing to go down the surgical route, as well as quickly regain full function following surgeries such as joint replacements and arthroscopies. In addition, we have a team of Allied Health professionals who can assist with your Cairns hip and knee pain treatment. This includes Cairns physiotherapists, occupational therapist, exercise physiologist and a naturopath .

Cairns Holistic Pain Treatment

At Wellness Embodied our team tailor treatment plans to suit your specific circumstances. We have a range of techniques and modalities we can employ during your Cairns hip and knee pain treatment. We don’t suggest endless rounds of appointments with no outcomes, if we can’t help, we will refer you on.

We treat the person, not just the body part and are passionate about helping our clients minimise pain and maximise movement.

Referrals are not necessary. We treat clients of all ages: Private, DVA, WorkCover, CTP and other insurance claims, GP referrals. We offer health rebates on the spot for private clients, via the HiCaps system.

At Wellness Embodied, we also offer Cairns physiotherapy video consultations. These are available for our existing and new clients who are unable to physically attend an appointment in Cairns, whether that’s due to location, self-isolation or or any other reason.
