Happy International Women’s Day!

This year, the theme is #BalanceforBetter. In the words of the International Women’s Day website, ‘Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage.’

Some of you may not know that at Wellness Embodied, we’ve decided to make ‘women’ the loose theme of our charitable and social change program this year. We believe that women bring a unique voice and set of skills to every table. By achieving gender balance across society, we will create a more harmonious, innovative and flowing world.

Of course, we are a physiotherapy practice in Cairns- and it’s well known that Allied Health professions do have a stronger weight of female employees. We are lucky to currently have a cohesive team of 5 awesome and motivated women and our 2019 social change program aims to use this for good within the FNQ region and outside. To date this year, our Cairns’ practice Women’s Program has achieved the following:

Suzanne also organised her birthday fundraiser on Facebook for this and was stoked to see an extra $300 going to the charity in lieu of presents.

  • March: So far this month! We organised a successful Business Clean Up Australia Day event, where we picked up 6 full sacks of rubbish on Lake Morris Road as part of our Wellness Embodied Copperlode Clean up. We’ve committed to taking 2 work experience students. Suzanne is swimming as part of ‘Laps for Life’. https://www.lapsforlife.com.au/fundraisers/suzannerath/laps-for-life

On this International Women’s Day, we found this super cool group, the Black Mambas, who are visiting Australia Zoo this weekend. They are making it their mission to prevent poaching in South Africa without weapons or violence- check them out! https://www.blackmambas.org/donate.html

AND finally, in the cause of supporting female leadership, our donation to UN Women could provide female political candidates with a toolkit enabling them to run for office. How good is that?!

We can offer support to women at risk via charitable donations, to all female sporting groups via in kind sponsorship (we have remedial massage on site as well as physiotherapy and a Rehab Room gym) and to upcoming leaders via mentoring. Get in touch with your ideas!

If you have a spare moment today, we’d recommend searching what’s trending under #BalanceforBetter or #iwd19. There are some awesome people in the world doing great things, which give us all hope for the future! We’d love to hear your favourites!
