Did you know that studies have shown that approximately 10% of people who participate in contact sports will sustain a concussion at some point during their career? If you have a team of 15 players, it is likely that one or more will have already sustained a concussion at some point during their contact sport career.
So, why is this important?
Left untreated and unmanaged, concussions can lead to a whole range of chronic health issues such as headaches, neck pain, dizziness, and fatigue, just to name a few. Returning to play to soon, is one of the highest risk factors that result in ongoing concussion-related symptoms.
At Wellness Embodied, our physiotherapists Suzanne, Clara and Alyza have completed their concussion assessment and management training, and are a certified concussion clinic through Complete Concussion Management. We are passionate about improving awareness of concussion in sports, and of improving rehabilitation following injury. One of the most important aspects of rehabilitation from concussion is early assessment. Ideally, assessment would be completed in the first 24-48 hours following injury. We appreciate that this can be difficult for most people, so we have made your lives a little bit easier!
Beginning on the 8th of February at our clinic at 30 Scott Street, Wellness Embodied will be hosting a drop in concussion clinic for athletes who have sustained an injury over the weekend and would like to get started on their rehabilitation journey. It will provide you with the opportunity to come in, receive information on acute concussion injuries, and some basic strategies to get you started on your rehabilitation. All of this information will be provided to you by our qualified team of physiotherapists, and will give you an opportunity to express any concerns you may have relating to your injury. Beginning your rehabilitation journey early, will mean that you will be able to return to play sooner, and will have reduced risk of developing long-term symptoms!
These sessions will be available every Monday from the 8th February, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Walk-ins are accepted!
