The physio’s at Wellness Embodied have a new tool to play with! Our new MAT developed by Movement Assessment Technology, improves the ease of completing a whole body assessment, and allows us to really nut out why you may be experiencing pain. This tool is great for assessing a whole variety of tasks such as:
Our physiotherapist Alyza is currently completing her Level One MAT course, and is already implementing some of the skills she is learning to assist in the management of her clients.
It is always important to complete a total body assessment, as you may be experiencing pain in one area of the body due to dysfunction in another part of the body. For example, did you know that a lack of hip internal rotation has been linked to shoulder and elbow pain in baseball throwers? Who would have thought to look at somebodies hip when they have a sore shoulder?! Comparing sides is also important, as it is very common that the limb that is sore is often the stronger limb of the two, and is only sore because it is being overworked.
Whilst it is always important to treat the sore body part (in relation to the person’s goals of course), for a full recovery, it is important to consider the individual as a whole, and ensure that there are no issues further up the biomechanical chain that are contributing to the person’s injuries. This results in a targeted injury management and prevention approach, and allows us to provide an even more targeted approach to treatment and exercise for rehabilitation.
Check out our Facebook post on the MAT here to see how the MAT can be used for a balance assessment.
