Wellness Embodied Blog

At Wellness Embodied, we offer orthotics prescription services utilising our GaitScan technology. Our therapists are qualified in assessing your need for orthotics, and will determine exactly what is going to be suitable.

So, who needs orthotics?

If you can answer yes to any of the following questions, you may be in need of some extra arch support!

– do you stand for long periods of time, and often leave work with aching feet?

– do you suffer from low back, hip, knee, ankle or foot pain?

– do you suffer from niggling overuse injuries such as stress fractures, tendon problems, ankle instability or plantar fasciitis?

– do you tend to wear out one side of your shoe first?

– do you have bunions, calluses or other signs of wear on the soles of your feet?

– do you struggle to find the right footwear for your sport or lifestyle?

Our feet are the only points of contact with the ground when walking! They are expected to hold up our body weight all day every day, whilst we put it through its paces playing sport, exercising or participating in any other leisure activities. One small problem at the feet can change the way the rest of the body moves, and often, refer issues further up the biomechanical chain. We often see overuse knee injuries that have stemmed from poor foot biomechanics, however it is also not uncommon for us to see someone with neck or back pain present who also has flat feet!

It is important to address foot biomechanics sooner rather than later, as it will only worsen with time, increased activity, and with weight gain. If you want the most out of your rehabilitation, considering your injury from all angles is paramount!

Is there an alternative?

Because our physiotherapists aim to correct all the issues leading to your pain (and not just your feet!), we look at you as a whole person! For feet that require smaller corrections, in growing feet, or as a temporary solution, a custom insole may be a good option for you. Our physiotherapists will look at your feet and footwear and add insole additions on the spot, giving your feet the instant support that they require. We can also use tape, heel wedges or smaller supports, improving your foot positioning and pain using the most effective solution.
